About Us

—-

In 2003, Merle was in between graphic design jobs and went to work for a landscaper who was a friend of ours. It turned out he was a natural. Pulling from his graphic design experience, in addition to his earlier job as a draftsman, his skill and design abilities translated easily to landscape design.

After those three years of mentoring, our friend moved to the Okanagan and recommended that Merle take over the business. With one job lead, our first truck, and the same installation crew, our business began.

It didn’t take long before Katie started to ask questions about the designs Merle was doing, and when her questions and ideas became annoying, Merle suggested she come to the client meetings too! Always wanting to know more, Katie then enrolled in Guelph University’s Landscape Design Program and joined the business full time.

Finally in 2013, the Edmonton winters became too much to take, and we got tired of the limitations of designing in Zone 3 and packed our bags (and pets and trucks) and came to Vancouver Island, settling in Sidney.

It was only after moving here that we discovered that Katie’s great grandfather Jock Anderson had founded Sidney’s Anderson’s Hardware decades earlier, before it became the current Home Hardware. Bringing it full circle, our offices are now a stone’s throw from the store’s original location on the Sidney waterfront.

Our business has grown and expanded since we came to Sidney. We have had clients turn into best friends. We work with builders, developers, architects, biologists, and engineers, and are always expanding our professional collaborations and networks.

The best part of our job is getting to see how people’s lives change with landscaping. Our clients tell us that they spend more time together as couples and as families and how creating beautiful spaces fills them with happiness.

We are thrilled to have found a home and community in Sidney and can often be found walking our dogs and lingering on patios.

They began and completed the job on time, on budget, and to the highest of standards
